Michelle’s family has been in Redlands California for over three generations but at the age of 12 she moved to Kansas City, Kansas with her mother and sister. The move to the mid-west has given Michelle a keen understanding of cultural diversity and her own cultural identity. Her newer artwork investigates memory and identity through family relationships. The work she creates is¬†known to challenge mainstream perceptions and attitudes towards death, religion, politics, and traditional notions of beauty. The goal of Michelle’s work, is to bring into public view that which most people are uncomfortable with in order to challenge and provoke the viewer to see and consider things differently. Michelle feels that her work is truly successful when it elicits a dialogue and opinions are questioned.
